Mae Sotsgiving

Our first weekend in Mae Sot we were told there would be an early Thanksgiving celebration with around 80 people. I thought they were exaggerating, but the video above shows they clearly weren’t.

Practically everybody brought food or wine or something to share – there was even turkey imported from Chiang Mai! Last year our little group of teachers got together in Surat and cooked up a storm but we could only manage KFC for the main course.

Volunteers, NGO workers, and other community members joined in the festivities.  It was quite a feast and gave me a warm and fuzzy feeling to share our American tradition with so many people from so many places.

Of course, nothing beats being at home with family but no matter where you are, it’s good to be grateful for what you’ve got, and I am grateful for the tradition of giving.
